First and foremost, we (Capitol Professionals) would like to thank everyone who attended The Second Annual Mellon Gala. Thank you as well to all of our event partners including Grey Goose, Magnises, The Mellon Auditorium, Black Tux and Rent the Runway.
Wow, what a night! 1,000 patrons created an atmosphere which was electric and the set the air thick with excitement. The gentlemen were smartly dressed and all the ladies were beautiful.
Guests enjoyed good music in a beautiful space, conversations with friends old and new and the renewed excitement and hope of a new year.
That is not to say that the night was without complications; with New Year’s Eve being the busiest night of the year and a rush of patrons after 11PM, the Gala certainly faced several unanticipated challenges. Fortunately, thanks to the feedback and suggestions of valued patrons we have already put in place new processes and procedures for vendor selection and event management that will greatly improve responsiveness going forward.
It goes without saying that the Third Annual Mellon Gala will be an even bigger and better event for all of the capitol’s professionals.
The Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium faces Constitution Avenue and is entered through three doorways in deeply channeled limestone above Deere Island pink granite. Granite stairs rise to the main doors where six colossal fluted Roman Doric columns rise 62 feet to create the auditorium’s portico. The columns are matched by fluted Doric pilasters set against the smooth limestone back wall. The grandeur of the Mellon’s exterior is matched only by its opulent interior. Limestone-finished walls and piers define the space and frame views of the east and west staircases, lobby, and breathtaking auditorium. The lobby’s marble floor is laid in rectilinear patterns of gold, pink, and dark red marble. At the heart of the Mellon is a spectacular auditorium standing more than 60 feet high, embellished with limestone pilasters, gilded relief carvings, and polished oak.
